Lawrence Clark Powell was a noted writer and librarian. Powell was well-known for his writings on librarianship and the literature of the American Southwest, including books such as Books West Southwest and Southwest Classics. Joseph Duncan Kenner Brent was born(ca. 1907-1981) and reared in Baltimore. He was a graduate of the Gilman School and the University of Virginia. His grandfather was Joseph Lancaster Brent, who came to southern California before the Civil War and after whom Brentwood (in Los Angeles is named.
